Herb's Airplane
1977 SkyHawk II 172 XP
Hilbert bought this plane new in 1977. TT log shows we
put a little over 1000 hrs. on it. It was traded back in in 1979 for a new 182 RG. Plane was purchased by Tom Whitehurst
and stayed in Dalhart until about 1984. It was sold at a Regan
& Brown Auction at MIller field and purchased by a man from Guymon and kept at the airport at Texhoma. Brady Meyer purchased this plane on Feb. 5, 2009 with only 2350 TT hrs. on the airframe and a new engine installed at 2000
TT hrs. for $35,000.00. The plane had .09 tenths of a hr. on it since 2006, when it was annualed at Boise City and flown back to Texhoma and hangered again. Thanks to Shane remembering this plane and the story that goes with
it and Sheridan knowing it was at the airport, Brady looked the guy up and bought it much cheaper and less than half the hrs. than anything else he had looked at. Jack Pratt (the owner) is 84, the same age as Ray Mathis, and he was
handling this plane about like Ray in the old backhoe. So it is the end of an era for Jack and we no longer let Ray run the backhoe, either! The picture of the plane is at the Texhoma airport. Brady's Dad was about to head to Guymon airport for a annual. Tim flew it to Amarillo last week and it is now at home at Tradewind Airport. Brady is doing ground school and flying ever morning, and hopes to solo in a couple weeks.
I was in the plane a few days ago. Looks and smells the very same.Paint and interior are original as well as all the instrument panel.
